Our Story

Dan and Anne

The Original Manassero Farms is celebrating its 40th year.  The farms 5 locations in Orange and LA counties are the culmination of years ofhard work by owner and farmer, Dan Manassero.  Dan is part of a third generation farming family here in Orange County.  His grandfather, James, started farming in Yorba Linda, CA in 1922.  Learning the tricks of the trade from his grandfather, father and uncle, Dan has become one of Orange County’s best certified organic and conventional farmers.

Over the years Dan has been a first hand witness to how such influences from governmental regulations, labor resources, trade, large commercial growers, and big box stores have changed the face of urban farming. Dan and his wife, Anne, both know that you have to be flexible and keep up with growing trends in farming and lifestyle.

Dan and Anne feel blessed that their seemingly separate interests (Dan’s in farming and Anne’s in design, cooking and marketing) have come together in their newest location, Manassero Farms Irvine Market.  It is in this location where you will directly enjoy the best of them both.  The Market is a unique one-of-a-kind blend of a fresh farm market and gift store.  There’s always a fun “happy surprise” expressed by customers that come in for the first time and exclaim how charming and fun the experience is.  From the amazing produce that has been walked, not trucked, in to the pick-your-own herb garden, private labeled jams, jellies, honeys, gourmet foods, hand made soaps, lotions and candles. Coming to the market is an experience that can’t be matched anywhere else in OC.

While Dan’s obvious influence is in all of the edibles, Anne’s can be found in all the surroundings.  Anne has brought her design influence to the farm in their special events venue a.k.a. “The Barn”.   There customers will find an artfully decorated space full of architectural salvage, rustic tables, and elegant comfort.  You can enjoy gourmet farm inspired chef dinners, quick lunches, and any variety of private events tailored to your specifications. Dan Manassero – Owner/CEO Manassero Farms & Nature’s Best Farms, Inc.

Dan grew up with farming in his blood.  One of his earliest memories about wanting to be aDan Manassero farmer is when he was just 5 or 6 years old and his grandmother told him that he was so smart that he should be a doctor; his response “No, I’ll be a farmer!”  His farming philosophy is “It’s just got to be good!”  He knows that eating and enjoying food encompasses all the senses starting with your eyes and nose.  Before you ever get a look at the delectable, juicy, sweet, berries you will smell them the second you get out of your car.  Your next sense will be enticed by the mere sight of the beautiful completely ripe red, plump berries. He knows that his customers are coming to experience the same delicious, healthy berries and produce that his family has been bringing to Orange County for decades.

Dan is a proud part of a third generation farming family that has been farming in Orange County since 1922 and is honored to still be an urban farmer.  Dan has always had a love for everything outdoors. Since childhood Dan loved going out into his grandfathers giant garden to watch him take care of his orange and avocado trees, asparagus patches, and tomato rows.  In high school Dan started driving tractors for his father and uncle in their farming operation.  Dan also has a great love of animals and used to raise steers at his high schools AG farm. During this time Dan watched and learned how to grow many different fruits and vegetables from his dad.

At 21 Dan and his oldest brother Steve started farming together in their own right.  Although Steve went out on his own years ago, Dan has been farming under the name The Original Manassero Farms for 40 years now.  Dan grows both certified organic and conventional crops.  Dan is best known for growing the most delectable strawberries in Orange County.  Unlike many large, commercial growers, Dan grows berries that are known for their taste and color not their ability to sit on store shelves for unknown amounts of time. His berries are picked and delivered every morning at the height of ripeness.  Among other things he also grows heirloom and beefsteak tomatoes, sweet corn, green beans, cucumbers, cantaloupe, watermelon and many varieties of squash.  Because of his wife Anne’s influence, he now also grows Texas 1015 onions that are highly anticipated every year by not only Anne but all his customers as well.  Dan is proud father to son Jeff, daughters Samantha and Carly, and stepdaughter Laurel.

Anne Manassero – Designer/Farm Chef  and Co-Owner

Farm Chef Anne Manassero

Anne was born deep in the heart of Texas where a piece of her heart and soul remain today. Anne and her husband, Dan, were married in 2003 and immediately discovered how well Dan’s passion for farming and Anne’s marketing and design experience complement each other. Adding another dimension to Dan’s thriving farming business, Anne is the designer and sole buyer for Manassero Farms Market. Although Anne has no formal design experience she has spent a lifetime honing her design style through years of world travel and living in many different cities and spaces from New York City to LA.  She has always enjoyed helping friends and family reinvent their surroundings.  By incorporating natural elements, grounding colors and reinventing what people already have, Anne enjoys teaching people how to get the most out of any space and enhance their own creativity and personal style. If you are interested in having Anne provide you a consultation on the best use of your space or to even reinvent your home or rooms within it reach out to her on our website “Ask Anne” page.

A few years ago Anne’s roots led her back to Texas when she was blessed enough to buy and fully refurbish and remodel a classic 1920’s bungalow in downtown Austin.   The reception and success of the Austin house and many other projects gave Anne enough confidence to turn the Manassero Farms Market location into a successful and sought after one-of-a-kind event venue, market, and gift shop. Anne’s motto comes from her own experience, “The more creative you get, the more creative you get!”  In hindsight “I guess marrying a strawberry farmer isn’t such a stretch” says Anne. When going through family photos she found two photos of herself at different ages holding fresh strawberries at farmers markets.  Fitting right in to farming, Anne’s other passions are cooking, fitness and teaching.

Growing up in Abilene Texas Anne grew up surrounded by strong women who knew how to cook and garden. Her fondest childhood memories surround being in the kitchen, back yard or a farmers market with her mother or grandmother. Her all-time favorite comfort foods are chicken fried steak, mashed taters & gravy of course! With favorites like that Anne was no stranger to having the extra pounds that southern comfort food can pack on.  This led her to uncover another passion for Pilates, Yoga and teaching.  Anne became a lead Pilates teacher trainer for Equinox and a certified yoga instructor for Core Power Yoga.

Anne’s latest venture and enjoyment comes from teaming up with master chef Pascal Olhats in The Farmer’s Wife and The French Chef.  Together they combine their talents to introduce easy lifestyle lessons in taking your house to a home and your food from good to gourmet.  No matter what, Anne’s biggest joy will always come from being wife to Dan, mom to daughter Laurel, to her step children Jeff, Samantha, and Carly.
