❯ I'm trying to update a wix site to have multiple galleries with rotating pictures from a google drive
} catch (err) {
console.error(`Failed to load ${name}:`, err);
}
}));
});
Caveats
- Image links: the lh3.googleusercontent.com address works, but Google doesn't officially support linking to Drive images from other sites, so
it could stop working or slow down under heavy traffic.
- Sturdier option: a scheduled Wix job that copies new Drive images into Wix's own media library. The images then load from Wix's servers.
This means more setup, but nothing depends on Google's links. I can write it if you'd prefer that.
- Large images: very large originals (for example 20MB phone photos) load slowly. Adjust =w1600 to change the image size.
A few questions so I can tailor this
1. How do you edit the site? Is it the Wix Editor in the browser, Wix Studio, or a local Wix CLI project? If it's local, I can set up the files
in this folder.
2. What should "rotating" do? It could mean an auto-advancing slideshow, a new random set of photos each visit, or both.
3. Where are the Drive folders? Roughly how many galleries do you need, and is each one already its own Drive folder? I can look through your
Google Drive to find the folders and their IDs if you'd like.

❯ Can I create a duplicate home page with an alternate menu?
⏺ Yes. Wix allows only one actual home page, but you can duplicate it as a regular page with its own address and give that page a different menu.
1. Duplicate the page
In the Editor, open Pages & Menu, hover over Home, click the ⋯ icon, then choose Duplicate. Then:
- In the new page's ⋯ → Settings, give it a clean URL slug, such as /home-alt.
- If you don't want it in the main menu, choose ⋯ → Hide from menu.
- If it's nearly identical to Home, consider turning off search engine indexing in the page's SEO settings, so Google doesn't treat it as
duplicate content.
2. Create the second menu
Click your menu element, then go to Manage Menu. Use the menu dropdown to create a new menu, and add the links you want on the alternate page.
3. Show the right menu on each page
The menu is in the header, and the header appears on every page, so both menus need to live there. The most reliable way to switch between them
is a little code, since you'll be using Velo for the galleries anyway:
1. Add a second menu element to the header and connect it to the new menu. Place it exactly on top of the original.
2. Give the two menus IDs in the Properties panel, such as mainMenu and altMenu.
3. In masterPage.js, the site-wide code file, add:
import wixLocation from 'wix-location-frontend';
const ALT_MENU_PAGES = ['home-alt']; // URL slugs that use the alternate menu
$w.onReady(() => {
const useAlt = ALT_MENU_PAGES.includes(wixLocation.path[0]);
if (useAlt) {
$w('#mainMenu').hide();
$w('#altMenu').show();
} else {
$w('#altMenu').hide();
$w('#mainMenu').show();
}
});
4. In the Properties panel, set altMenu to Hidden on load. This stops both menus from flashing on screen before the code runs.
To give more pages the alternate menu later, add their slugs to ALT_MENU_PAGES.
If you're on Wix Studio: you may not need code. Studio can Jump to bottom (click) ↓ le page, so you could hide it on the duplicate and build a
